MOUSE TRAP! OUCH!
Give us your view of the activity today. Let us know how trust had anything to do with this activity today? How did your perception change about the activity, your group and yourself, from the beggining of the period until the end? Finally what does this have do with climbing and working with others?

I was really scared about the mouse traps but my group helped me through it. For climbing, we all have to understand eachother's fears and concerns. By the end of the period, I was still scared of mouse traps.

at first i was a little nervous but then after a bit i wasnt so scared. we had to trust eachother to not set traps off on other peoples fingers. we have to trust and respect eachothers fears while climbing

I was really scared too, but for me, it was easier to do with my eyes closed than by myself because I didn't have to see the trap. I had no problem trusting my partner, but it was more about getting over my own fear of mouse traps. This was a little different than climbing because with climbing, my perception changes from being scared to jump to wanting to do harder stuff, but with this mouse trap activity, I never want to do it again.

At first I didn't want to try it at all, but once I did, I realized it wasn't that dangerous. When doing the partner mouse trap activity, I noticed that I could trust my group completely. In fact, I thought putting my hand on the mouse trap with my eyes closed and my partner telling me what to do was easier than me doing it myself. I think this activity relates to climbing because sometimes, you're going to be scared, but you have to know that your group always has your back.

I was taken back by the mousetraps, but i consider myself as a person who likes to take risks so i thought it was fun. It helped my group communicate and trust and overall we had fun.

OHHHHHHHHMYYYYYYYYYYYGODDDDDDDDDDDDD. Honestly, I hated it. Yes, this definitely had something to do with trust... but really ?! MOUSE TRAPS ?! :( Never again, H. Never again... Good thing I wore a sweater that day. :sigh:
ReplyDeleteI was scared at first but seeing how unafraid Grieta was really helped. She was so cool about the whole thing so I thought it wasn't that big of a deal. I just get frustrated when other people don't get how to do it or don't listen. This activity was all about trusting the people around you bc if you don't you could get severely hurt.

ps. I just did the last weekend blog
I was so scared to put my hand on the mouse trap, but my group highly encouraged me and helped me through it. As far as climbing goes, our group also has to help each other out and encourage the climb that they can do it.

At first I was not looking forward to working with mousetraps at all. As soon as you started taking them out of the bag I thought "Oh no..." Trust definitely played a role in the activity. I had to be able to trust you that I could set it off with my hand without it hurting. It deals with climbing because you have to be able to trust and work with your teammates. I thought the part where we had to get each trap over to the other side of the room was fun because our group did it so fast. I was just proud that we could all work together so cooperatively.

when you first pulled out the mouse traps i was a little nervous i'm not gonna lie, and I wasn't sure what ws going to happen. But once you did it and showed us it was gonna be okay then i felt better. Then when we did it as a group i think it really help that we all did it at the same time, so we all felt better doing it together. we worked really well together.

to be honest i thought you were crazy when you first told us what the activity was going to be. But once you showed us how to do it and people started taking the chance and trying it i realized it wasnt that bad after all. the fact that i trust my group members and my classmates helped me to realize that. i think this activity was related to climbing because once we see people we trust do things that we are afraid to do or think that we can not accomplish we dont find it as hard to give it a try. i think we all trust each other and as time goes on that will only build and make things easier in climbing and activities such as this one.

I thought that the activity was pretty scary. I found it easier to do without my eyes closed. I could see the trap and trust my own instincts. So far in climbing I have always trusted my group members. But somehow when I had to unlock the mouse trap with my eyes closed, I psyched myself out. I found it odd, when I heard we were going to do this as a teambuilding activity. But afterwards I saw it all connects to the idea of trusting others and oneself.

I wasnt here for this activity but it sounded like everyone had to trust each other and have paitence or else someone could get hurt. I guess you can relate this to climbing because everyone has to learn to just people even when they are in dangerous situations and to just stay calm

The activity was tons of fun, even though we were just playing with mouse traps. at first it seemed scary, but once done... piece o cake. in my group, we had to help people do it at first, but their perception changed. Relates to climbing in that it seems high and freaky to jump from the top till you do. gotta trust our classmates and mr. H!
ReplyDeleteerin blanchette
It was kind of scary at first, but when I got the hang of it it was really fun! The part with the closed eyes needed a LOT of trust, but we got over it. I want to do it again!
ReplyDeleteJanette
This activity relates to climbing in that you had to trust that your partner made sure that you didn't hurt yourself, which is true with climbing. Those mousetraps kind of hurt, but not much, and for some reason I kept feeling the urge to stick my hand in mine. I'm not sure why.
ReplyDelete- Connor S.
I think that most of it had to do with trusting ourselves more than anyone else. You had to know that you have the skill and ability to do it with out getting hurt first. And just like climbing it was a lot easier once you have already done it.
ReplyDeleteZoi
I felt pretty comfortable doing this activity, but you had to trust that the mouse trap wouldn't hurt that bad when you smothered it. Also you had to trust that your partner would guide your hand on the right path. At the end of the period I trusted my group more than I did before because I saw how much they trusted each other during the activity and how they took risks doing the activity. This relates to climbing because you really have to trust your belayer and backup.

i thought it was a good activity, and it really showed how important being able to trust yourself is. the perception that the moustrap will hurt you is hard to ignore because it seems logical. i think that as we go further it will become easier to ignore 'logic' and trust when doing seemingly irrational things ex; putting your hand on a moustrap, jumping from the cieling, repelling down a cliff. =]
ReplyDeletei think this was fun and i was glad to see my group go from sayinng "no way" to trying it in their own way =]=]

by now, i think im pretty comfortable with my climbing group so as a team we didnt really have any perception issues. We all followed directions and did the task. I thought the mouse trap activity was very fun!
ReplyDeletekatrina
when you get on the wall, you have to completely trust the other members of the group to keep you safe if you fall. That is kind of like the trust that we had to have in each other with the mousetraps. I personally didn't like the activity at all though. I felt that it was really scary and dangerous. But thankfully, we were all careful and nobody got hurt. :)
ReplyDelete-Rosako Wagner
I trust my group, and they are very good at comforting and encouraging me. So when i was terrified to touch the mouse trap they were patient and kept helping me until i was okay with it. I think it's really important that everyone in the group helps each other and makes sure everyone is on the same page. As much as i didn't like the challenge of over coming the fear in this activity, it served a good purpose.
ReplyDelete-Tiffani P
well when you showed us what we were doing i was like NO WAY IM DOING THAT..my hole group was scared but the at the time we all started curaging eachother and all ended doing it at the same time then for the second part it was easier beacuse wee all helped eachother and work together and it was easier for all of us and its the same with climbing for the reason that you need to trust you group if they will catch you or not but i trust my group..
ReplyDelete-vanessa
well, from what I gather about the activity it sounds like we must have been in danger of getting snapped up by a mouse trap. i think that would be pretty darn freaky, especially because those things could probably do some serious damage to a skinny little finger. The class sounds like they really came together in their groups to help each other out, though, both with the with the courage and to give it a try and the trust to help them do it safely.

When you took out the mouse traps, I couldn't believe that you were serious. It didn't really matter that you performed a demonstration because you're the teacher and it's kind of your job to be able to perform these tasks. But when someone else in my group told us that it really wasn't as terrifying as it seemed and showed us so, it gave our group confidence to try something new.

The mouse trap activity was really surprising. I thought putting my hand on a mouse trap would hurt me but it really didn't. It was also fun tring to get the traps from one side of the room to the other.I had fun you should do the activity agian.
