There can not be any gaps in the system or the team will fail. If someone falls while climbing and does not safely land, it is because our team went wrong somewhere in the system. We can't get frsutrated with eachother, because we can only make progress united, not separately.
i think thAT its fun climbing but its hard when your almost to the top and yeah i mean if you are short its harder beacuse you cant reach some of them and you cant do stuff and if your tall its easier beacuse you could reach all the grippers and they wont fall when i do that its really hard beacuse you pull your arms the next day. but im really happy that i can trust anyone in my class that i wont fall. also that i know that i wont fall and they could trust me on me on anything and mostly on falling beacuse i will make sure i will be carefull..
Everyone has to be in synch with each other in terms of cooperation; everyone has to be doing their part correctly, and at a similar pace to everyone else's, or else there will be complications and failure in climbing successfully. Another connection between the activity and climbing is that it's quite difficult to do both of those activities with one hand.
I think it had a lot to connect with climbing. we needed to communicate with each other or it wouldn't work. also, we couldn't get frustrated because someone messed up or couldn't do something, patience was essential.
well for both climbing and playing channels we really have to rely on our teammates in order to do the activity correctly. They both also require a lot of patience. If we messed up once in the channels game and gave up, we'd never get anything done. Likewise, when we're climbing, if we get too impatient and give up at the first obstacle we're never going to be able to truly reach our potential. -megan K
I think for both climbing and channel activity, it's important to concentrate and not get distracted. In the channels activity, if someone got bored and distracted, the ball fell and we had to start over. In climbing, I think alot of people get distracted watching other groups while your own group is climbing(I know I sometimes do...), so we have to make sure we are always ready and paying attention.
Yeah, concentration is definitely a necessity. Sometimes, the other groups would distract me because they would almost be at the bucket, so I would lose focus and be too late to catch my group's ball. :/ It's like in climbing, too. Whenever someone's about to jump off of the freaking high thingy, I can't help but to watch instead of focusing on my group member who's climbing. T-T
In both activities we have to have team work and be open to everyone's ideas. Also we have to focus on what we are doing. If we are not concentrating then someone can fall while climbing or the marble can fall while doing that activity. Cassie
I think that the activity we did was pretty repetitive and that is how climbing is going to get come May once we've been doing it for so long, but even though it gets like that you always have to maintain focus on the task at hand and you have to double check the system to make sure there are no holes in order to complete it correctly.
I see a connection that we need to have good communication and also a good plan. A plan that we all have a part in so that in climbing the climber can trust that they are safe with their group
I think it mostly connects with the idea of communication and making sure that everyone is ready and focused before we start. If that doesn't happen then the system will fail and the climber/marble will fall.
We had to have a lot of patience to complete the task. This goes for climbing too, as you can't get borrrred if a person is taking a while. In both activities, every single person must contribute and do their part. If not, something will fail and - in climbing - others could get hurt.
Everything is connected. In climbing, the climber is attached to the belayer, who is attached to the back-up. With the channels, all the channels had to connect or the marble would drop.
I believe that this channel activity has many connections to climbing. Both of these activities teach us patience and perseverance. In getting the marble safely to the tin, it requires a group effort and proper communication. Similarly in climbing,it is not only the climber's effort that helps him/her get to the top, but it also takes a lot of work from those who are belaying, anchoring, and monitoring.
They both require a lot of awareness and focus. For the channels, we always had to keep an eye on the marble and be ready just in case someone else wasn't there to connect the channels. In climbing, we always have to be aware of the climber and be ready to step in in case somebody else isn't able to.
To get someone up the climbing wall or getting the marble into the canister using channels requires everyone to be focused and knowing how to pace yourself with others. A lot of communication skills go into these activities. For example, the climber and the belayer need to communicate when the other person would like to start or finish the climb. Being focused and aware to pace yourself with your team will get the job done successfully. For the Channel team building, as a team, everyone with a channel need be on the same page on where to go next and not get distracted for the marble not to drop. Pacing is also important in this activity by timing out how long it takes for the person to get to the end of the line or how long the marble takes to get to the end of the channel. -Katrina
In both activities, the team had to work together, and communicate. No member could go on ahead without the rest of the team. The channel activity was a really good way to build our teams and help us talk to eachother. Also, we had to not get frustrated with other people in our group during the chanel activity, just like climbing. No matter how long it takes someone to climb the wall, we still have to cheer them on the whole way.
The channels activity was really fun and it related to climbing a lot. We had to be patient, and not give up if one person kept messing up. Or, if we as a group kept messing up. Just like climbing, we got the hang of this after trial and error.
There were many connections to the activity and climbing, but the most important one was that each person needs to concentrate and do their part. If one person loses focus or isn't in the right place at the right time, it messes up the entire thing. We have to learn how to be patient with the rest of our team but also be able to trust them to do their job. -Nikhi K
You used marble as a vehicle to show us the importance of teamwork. Through channeling, I clearly understood why it was neccessary that our group must communicate and be in position at all time.
I saw a connection between the two activites for sure. we all had to prevent the ball (or someone ) from falling and it showed how everyone had a important party they had to do.
This activity is like climbing....you have to work together(communicate) and trust eachother. Also, each individual has to own up to their responsibilities to make sure everything goes smoothly and no one gets hurt. -Tiffani p
For me, it was all about keeping the group under control and not frustrated. No matter what happens in climbing, everythin always has to stay controlled and optimistic.
I have been teaching since 1995. I started teaching at Winston Campus Junior High in Palatine. In 2001 I began teaching at Fremd. I am an assistant golf and wrestling coach. I have also coached boys gymnastics and I was a sponsor for Powder Puff Football and Outdoor Adventure Club. I am the 4th child of 5, 3 older sisters and 1 younger brother. I am married and I have two great boys 2 1/2 year old and a 5 week old. Chase and Brody. I love it when I come home and chase yells out "DADDY" and has a big smile on his face and is coming to hug me.
